Knife Party - Rage Valley EP Review

It's here at last, the much awaited Rage Valley EP from Knife Party. Set for release on Monday I think, this is one you'll want to get your hands on. It'll be available on iTunes and Beatport.

Anyway onto the actual EP, its got 4 tracks so pretty standard. The first track is the title track and it has a bit of an electro feel to it, that is until it drops. It's a face melter believe me. A very typical knife party track, with the screams that we have grown to associate with them and love. It's a good set opener in my opinion and anyone lucky enough to be seeing them soon will definitely be hearing it.

"Centipede" the second track has a dubbed in intro with a man prattling on about how deadly centipedes are but after there is another heavy drop but this track is more bassey than the previous and has that deep grizzly sound that I go on about in nearly every post (sorry!), along with again the high pitched "whoops" and other Knife Party sounds. Just their usual unorthodox nuttiness.

The third track "Bonfire" is my favourite, following many other like Skrillex and Rusko, they have gone back to dubs Jamaican roots, well kinda. But this track has the dancehall vocals that many people are now using, but the drop is about as far away from original dub as you'll get. They've done what Skrillex has done a few times taken the original style and jazzed it up. After the ear shattering drop, they're a nice little segment of the track that sounded to me as if it was reminiscent of Pendulums track "Tarantula" which would be quite cool of Rob and Gareth. Probably a massive fucking coincidence knowing me.

The final track is in my opinion the weakest of the four. But that said Moombahton isn't really my thing to be honest with you. It's called "Sleaze" and features Mistajam. For my readers further afar than the fair British Isles, Mistajam is a DJ on the UK's biggest radio station, he regularly does dubstep features and has his musical tastes listed as "Urban". Like me if you're not a fan of Moombahton then this isn't going to set the world on fire but there you go.

So for Knife Party fans you're going to love this just as much as anything else they've put out. Its a good release from them and I really like it. Nothing too different except maybe the last track. But hey if it ain't broke don't fix it.

7/10
