OK OK, so it's been a fucking age since I last posted and that's for a number of reasons: work, uni, holidays and finally I've been working on a couple of mixes with a mate. Now I'm sure a lot of you remember that I posted about trap and its revival, so the mix we put together is mostly trap but there's also some dub thrown in there just for good measure. I'd love it if all you guys (well those that are still reading) to check it out and let us know what you think.
The quality in the 15 minute mix is a bit shit but we're working on that. Check it out, follow and comment. Thanks.

Could trap be here to stay?
OK now I don't
often do serious posts, but this one is cause I thought I'd give my
opinion on the rise of what some are calling the "second wave of trap".
For those of you that don't know trap was originally a hip hop genre
that originated in the southern states of the USA, usually because drugs
were sold from "trap-houses". But recently it seems that trap has made a
comeback amongst various dubstep and EDM producers.
Trap I think will forever be likened by the old school or tradition dubstep fans because of its heavy focus on low frequencies mainly in the use of the 808 drum (made famous by Roland). This heavy, resonating drum pines back to the days when dubstep was just starting out, the likes of Skream and Benga, pioneers of dubstep if you want. Another feature that is a throwback is the slower tempo or the apparent slower tempo in tracks. However the same cannot be said about the EDM community.
Those who have grown accustom to what they see as "dubstep" that is actually EDM, are divided, many of them turn away from it as it isn't really what they are used too. Those who have grown up without knowing what original dub was and where bass culture originated from are the main culprits.
My opinion? I personally like trap, but I have always been a fan of old school step, as well as EDM. Trap has a wider scope for vocals than most dubstep, but can work without, the deep bass will be a throwback for those of you like me, who remember the deep, dark sets from the old school dons. But I think we could be hearing a lot more trap in the future.
OK now for a bit of a rant and I'm gonna piss off the Skrillex fan boys here but it has to be said. Every time I click on anything to do with dubstep and EDM on youtube the top comments are always about Skrillex. There is absolutely no need to compare every single fucking song with Skrillex, OK? I have news for you as well: Skrillex is not the best in the game anymore. You have to look at the likes of Excision, Kill the Noise, Delta heavy who are all coming through hard and strong and have just taken it up a notch. Now don't get me wrong I like Skrillex but he isn't the be all and end all of bass, in fact far from it.
Now what kind of post would this be if I didn't leave you with some music eh? So while we're on the subject of Trap, I have a nice little remix for you from a producer known as Coyote Kisses, on a track by Titan called Clockwork. Great tune, check it out here.
That's it for today, check back soon for more bangers.

Weekly Bangers 04/09/2012
Welcome back!!! It's been a long time since my last post due to various holiday's but now I am back in the UK and I'm back with a couple of bangers for you today from Funtcase(x2) and Genetix. One of the tracks is new and one has been around for a fair while but barely anybody knows it.
Let's start with the new track, cause let's face it we all love something new don't we? So as a few of you may know Funtcase and Genetix released a track on UKF a few days ago and it is well and truly heavy. This is not a track for the feint of heart, from the first beat it sounds positively brutal and the drop is just that. The deep growling sound giving way to a really electronic wobble that you will either love or hate. Personally it's right up my street. It builds beautifully and just drops and drops. Now this track has had a mixed reception with a lot of people saying it sounds like Skrillex. If anyone can highlight a Skrillex track that this sounds remotely like then drop me a message otherwise if you think it sounds like Skrillex, you either need some new speakers or a hearing test. Check it out here!
OK and now onto the older track, this one is also from Funtcase and actually featured on MOS Sound Of Dubstep III. It's entitled "Fryngies" and is originally a song from Karin Park but forget about this original it's wank. OK well this remix is all about the drop and if you thought the last one was brutal then forget this. This is a track only for heavy EDM fans and hardcore steppers, it will be too much for some but it's one of my favourite drops in any track. Just listen, crank up the volume and just brace yourself. It hits you like a fucking sledgehammer!
That's your lot for today, check back soon for more disturbing bass.

Weekly Bangers 27/07/12
OK now I know pickings have been slim recently and my weekly bangers haven't been weekly and they also have usually consisted of one track. However good things come to those who wait and those who have stuck it out over the last 3 weeks or so are about to be rewarded with 2 stunning tracks and an EP for you to sink your teeth into.
Firstly I have some quite simply disgusting dubstep from out good friend Tomba. Major Look released the track "Bass Generation"not too long ago and it was on OK track. Tomba however took it and turned it into a pure banger. It is a very 'Tomba' track if you get me with the piano melody rolling into a filthy drop. Its deep and grizzly so bass fans get on this now.
Right, now onto a something a little bit different. This is a tune from the increasingly popular Drumsound and Bassline Smith. This is their latest track "Close" that is out sometime in August. Its a heavy drum and bass track that will appeal to all lovers of bass not just DnB junkies. It's currently up on UKF Drum and Bass and I believe is being released on New State Music with their upcoming EP. Drumsound and Bassline Smith - Close
Finally today I have something very tasty from UK producer Far Too Loud, he's not massive at this current moment but expect big things from him in the future, he certainly has talent and has just released his new EP "Firestorm". It is a sterling 3 track EP and all 3 of them are bangers. Definitely one for the Electro/Dub fans out there. Get it here now!!.
That's it for now people keep checking back for more bangers!

Weekly Bangers 18/07/2012
So as I'm sure you know I haven't posted in a little while and that's because I didn't have a lot for you. This time is a tad different, today I have yet more SKisM and and some Zedd for you, along with a remix from Revolvr. The SKisM and Stratus is recent, the Zedd mix however isn't so I'll come to that last.
First I'm gonna start with something that I know won't be every ones cup of tea. Revolvr, a dude from Las Vegas has been around the block a few times and has released music in many, many, many genres. He has now turned his hand to dubstep now and has put out a nice little remix. The track is entitled "Instant Replay" and was originally done by Reid Speed and FS. The mix an interesting one and like I said won't appeal to everyone but is well worth checking out.
Next up I have a SKisM track that isn't brand new but I'm sure many of you will have missed it, technically it has DC Breaks in it too so sorry to those guys for missing them out! Its entitled "Killer" and much like the last SKisM track I told you about it is an absolute tune. SKisM is really throwing out some great tracks and I don't think it'll be long till he gets a huge break. He deserves it, check it out here.
Finally for today I'm gonna finish with something from my favourite German producer, its a remix that has been out for a while now but if you haven't heard it you need too. It's a mix of the Skrillex track "Breakin' A Sweat", as always with Zedd its very housey and electro, so if that's not your thing then avoid. Listen on his SoundCloud.
Right that's your lot for now, enjoy your week everyone.

Skism ft. Virus Syndicate
This is my first post in a while, I've been really busy, sadly not with dubstep or anything similar but I'm back! Today I have a dirty little track for you, that was released earlier this year by Skism but it really hasn't got the appraisal it deserves.
Skism is a producer that has been around for a little while now, having a couple of plays on UKF, the track I want to bring to your attention today features British grime group Virus Syndicate, who to be honest I knew very little about. But the vocals work really well with the track. The dirty bassline and samples are very nice and the drop is almost sickening its that good. Have a good listen and enjoy.
Lastly today a track that personally I'm not too keen on but that everyone seems to be going crazy about. Skrillex's Goin In remix of Birdy Nam Nam has finally been dropped and is available now on UKF Drum and Bass. I really can't see the obsession but its there for those that are going crazy.
Sadly that's it, there seems to be very little around at the moment. Hopefully my next post will have more filthy dub that we all love!

Chase and Status, Flux Pavillion, Doctor P and Magnetic Man live!
And I'm back after a VERY heavy day in Hackney yesterday raving it up on the marshes. Yes Radio 1'd Hackney Weekend was certainly a smash and I thought that today I'd give you a run down of who I saw.
So the day started off in the Dance Arena (well the bar first, obviously) and a warm up set by DJ Zane Lowe. Now many of you will know that I'm not a fan of Zane Lowe, I've been very critical of him for 2 reasons: 1) He plays odd music in the middle of sets and 2) he can't mix for shit. When I saw him before Skrillex in February he was pretty poor. Yesterday however he was truly on form and played a flowing, banging set with some very nice mixing. This got everyone pumped up for the following act.
Flux Pavilion took to the stage with Doctor P. I'm seeing Flux in October but I couldn't miss the chance to see him, especially as there was fuck all on the other stages at this point. The set was explosive, energetic and quite brutal. The bass was LOUD, now I've been to a few gigs over the years but none of them had the bass quite this loud. It was so loud in fact you could hear and feel it across the site at the Main Stage. But this just added to the frenzy as everyone went ballistic for "Can't Stop" and "Bass Cannon".
After a break for beer, food and to recharge I headed over to see a nice little set from Friction on the DJ stage, the young drum and bass outfit got everyone going and are certainly worth checking out.
I then went round to see Magnetic Man in the In New Music We Trust tent, catching the end of a very impressive and almost haunting set from Lana Del Rey, who by the way is very tasty! For those of you unfamiliar with Magnetic Man they are a trio made up of Skream, Benga and Artwork, as you'd expect from this group they are very almost old school in their sound. Proper dub straight from its origins. They certainly had the crowd going too, with their MC (the name eludes me) getting everyone going. Special guests Katy B (also tasty) and Angela Hunte added to the experience with their vocals. If you're into your classic dub then these are well worth seeing.
Finally the last act of the day that relate to this blog were certainly my favourite. Chase and Status are massive in the UK, not so much elsewhere but if they come near you, just see them, it really is that simple. They opened with the brilliant "No Problem" and from there I don't think I stood still for more than 20 seconds. The set from them was of course packed with energy and of course explosive bass. Guest appearances from Liam Baily and the absolute nutter that is Tempah T, just got everyone going even more. But without a doubt the loudest cheer came from "End Credits" and "Pieces" both featuring Plan B. A nice touch was throwing in a couple of old ones such as "Smash TV" and of course the ever enjoyable "Eastern Jam". Overall they smashed it with a sick set. Just book your tickets for them right NOW!
A fantastic day was had all round from my dubstep point of view as well as seeing Rihanna in very little shorts!

Cypress x Rusko EP - Review
I hope all of you have been thrashing around like nutters to Borgore's latest EP decisions. Today I bring you yet another EP, this time its a collaboration between Rusko and Cypress Hill. Now when I heard this, I couldn't really picture the two releasing anything together but I was proved wrong. Well initially anyway.
The EP consists of 5 tracks, rather typically of Cypress Hill most are about weed. But there isn't much new there. When I first heard about this I wasn't sure that either of them would really convey their own sounds and styles well but they do. The first track "Lez Go" has a nice intro that pines back to the more pop/dance tracks on Rusko's previous release Songs. But it has that dark sounding beat that Rusko has become well known for, at the same time the vocals from the Cypress lads work well over the top.
Following you have "Roll it, Light it" which is a repetitive track, which in dubstep isn't new, again Cypress Hill's vocals over the top rapping about what they like most (weed) work well over this particular beat. In the track "Shots Go Off" we hear the most typical Rusko bass line that we have all grown to love. When you listen you'll know exactly what I mean (the one with the pitch bend that he uses a lot).
We then move onto what is by far the best track on the EP "Can't Keep Me Down" feat. Damian Marley. This track really encapsulates all 3 styles: hip hop, dub and dancehall. The structure of the song isn't compromised which means than none of the styles overpower the other. If you like this track and haven't listened to Songs by Rusko then you really need to. The last track "Medicated" again has the stereotypical Rusko feel to it.
When I first listened to this EP I thought it was a decent EP and all the tracks have their own pro's and con's. However when I listened to it through all the songs tend to bleed into one another making it a bit tedious. That would be my main gripe with this EP, none of the tracks are really different. Overall a decent release.

Borgore - Decisions EP Review
It's here, every feminists worst nightmare!! Borgore's new decisions EP. Now many of you will remember I wasn't too keen on his last EP. However this one is a different story.
This dirty little 4 track EP, has 4 different versions of the song "Decisions" on it in case you hadn't guessed. We have the original, a mix by Cedric Gervais (whoever the fuck that is) a mix by Dead Audio and then the Dub mix which is ever so slightly different to the original.
Firstly I really love the song Decisions and to be honest if you don't then this really isn't the EP, its Borgore back to his best, lyrics about nothing important and some nice dirty drops. The drums in the track are really clean and crisp which is important when you listen to the song, making it generally tidier. The structure follows a lot of previous tracks but he brings it together well.
The Cedric Gervais mix is a very house/electro/club style track, admittedly it won't be a lot of Borgore's die hard fan's favourite track but as a fan of house I like it, I think it's a good track and breaks the EP up well (if you can break up a 4 track EP based on one song).
By far my favourite track on the EP is the Dead Audio remix, its an absolute banger. The upped tempo I think really adds to the track without altering it too much that you can't tell its a remix which does seem to happen a lot these days. Again the drums are good in this mix and has that head bobbing rhythm.
This is a killer release from Borgore and a definite for fans!!

Weekly Bangers 13/06/12
Apologies that these a bit late, there hasn't been much going on in the dub world this week and the combination of piss poor weather and a shit Euro's has led to excessive drinking and gambling on teams like Qatar and Jamaica (what was I thinking?) but I'm back on the trail of the latest bangers.
So firstly today I have a track from a Chicago outfit, Adventure Club who released a track called "Rise and Fall" ft. Krewella, which by all accounts wasn't too bad. However that wasn't good enough for Krewella who then decided to release a new remix and its beastly. It has a lovely grizzly drop and some really nice drum loops with that punchy snare that I just love. Check it out, Adventure Club ft. Krewella - Rise and Fall (Krewella Remix), slightly confusing I know.
Another tune for you today is a really recent release on UKF and its a KillSonik remix of the Calvin Harris track "We'll Be Coming Back". Its a really nice remix with some of the higher pitched noises that we have come to associate with them and of course that heavy bass growl that is also very KillSonik. A good mix. Check it out here.
That's it for today my lovely readers. More soon! Keep it BASS!!!

Chase and Status Mix and Skrillex and 12th Planet Mix
Whats up everyone from a very rainy Kent. I hope the weather is considerably better than it is here. Today I have a couple of mixes for you that, trust me, are quality. First up I have a sick playlist from the massive act from right here in the UK Chase and Status. I know they aren't massive in the US but just check this out. I have been lucky enough to see them live and I'm going again in a few weeks, they're fucking amazing! For those of you familiar with Chase and Status this is a very dubby mix, something which I didn't experience from when I saw them. Obviously with tunes like Eastern Jam, they are more than capable of cracking out some dubstep but in recent years they have become more drum and bass. Check them out - Live at Electric Daisy, New York.
OK secondly today I have another mix for you. This one comes from Skrillex and 12th Planet and along with dropping their usual array of bangers, some skillful mixing is involved in this one, with them performing some cracking double drops. It's well organised and they really get the crowd going. Skrillex is someone else I've seen live and he's a fucking lunatic, if you're a hater then don't listen, but he's doing some crazy stuff with electro/dub. Ignore the point where one of the mixers dies, not much I can do about that. This is a heavy mix live from B2b Ultra.
Those should keep you going for now, back Monday with more bangers!

Weekly Bangers 04/06/2012
Another week and some more bangers coming your way. If you're in the UK happy Bank Holiday! Whatever you think of the Queen at least we get a couple of days off the normal grind. Unless you're working then well holiday pay? Anyway that's enough of me rambling on about nothing important.
First off today I have a track for you from someone I know very little about, Dank. He's not the most established of artists but hey this track just gave me an ear to ear grin. the track is called "The Hard Knocks" and yes it is a remix of the track from Annie/Jay-Z/Austin Powers, I'm sure most of you have heard it but I just really like this dubstep spin on and the real drum n bass feel in the second half of the song. You can find it here.
Secondly today I have something that has been around for quite a while but its a track I'm surprised not a lot of people have actually heard. If you have then I apologise for this being a cop out. Captain Crunch & Fytch have been around for a fucking age and individually churn out decent tracks, so when they teamed up to produce the track "Raindrops" it was huge and I loved it. But when I then saw one of my old favourites Tomba had done a remix of it, I loved it even more. As you'd expect from Tomba its rather heavy and the drop will probably give you a nosebleed if you aren't careful. Fans of Tomba/Borgore and a like will be all over this: Fytch & Captain Crunch ft. Carmen Forbes - Raindrops (Tomba Remix)
That's it from me today, check back later this week when hopefully I'll be bringing you a rather tasty mix!

Weekly Bangers 29/05/2012
Apologies for not posting yesterday its been a long, hot and hectic weekend. Anyway I'm back today with your weekly bangers. I've gone for a kinda summery number to start off with today and well it might not be a banger as such but its definitely a tune you should have a good listen too.
As I said this is a real summer tune from Zedd, its called "Spectrum" expect to hear it a fair few times this summer. Its just a track you cant help but bop your head too. I was out sunbathing over the weekend and this was right at the top of my playlist. Its not particularly dubstep or drum and bass, its kinda electro/house, its definitely good though. Check it out here.
From one Zedd to another now, well in style anyway. This next track is totally different from the previous with its summery feel. This is a remix of a really mellow and chilled song by a relatively unknown producer called CRNKN, the songs is titled "Purity Ring" and is originally by Obedear? (nah me neither?). The addition of a really heavy and pulsating bassline give the song some resonance, this one where you need to plug it into your sound system and crank the bass up to really enjoy the tune. Very reminiscent of Zeds Dead and some of his tunes and mixes, fans will know exactly what I mean. It'll have your whole house wobbling!
That's your lot this week. For my English readers get out and enjoy the sun, we don't get much of it!

Knife Party - Rage Valley EP Review
It's here at last, the much awaited Rage Valley EP from Knife Party. Set for release on Monday I think, this is one you'll want to get your hands on. It'll be available on iTunes and Beatport.
Anyway onto the actual EP, its got 4 tracks so pretty standard. The first track is the title track and it has a bit of an electro feel to it, that is until it drops. It's a face melter believe me. A very typical knife party track, with the screams that we have grown to associate with them and love. It's a good set opener in my opinion and anyone lucky enough to be seeing them soon will definitely be hearing it.
"Centipede" the second track has a dubbed in intro with a man prattling on about how deadly centipedes are but after there is another heavy drop but this track is more bassey than the previous and has that deep grizzly sound that I go on about in nearly every post (sorry!), along with again the high pitched "whoops" and other Knife Party sounds. Just their usual unorthodox nuttiness.
The third track "Bonfire" is my favourite, following many other like Skrillex and Rusko, they have gone back to dubs Jamaican roots, well kinda. But this track has the dancehall vocals that many people are now using, but the drop is about as far away from original dub as you'll get. They've done what Skrillex has done a few times taken the original style and jazzed it up. After the ear shattering drop, they're a nice little segment of the track that sounded to me as if it was reminiscent of Pendulums track "Tarantula" which would be quite cool of Rob and Gareth. Probably a massive fucking coincidence knowing me.
The final track is in my opinion the weakest of the four. But that said Moombahton isn't really my thing to be honest with you. It's called "Sleaze" and features Mistajam. For my readers further afar than the fair British Isles, Mistajam is a DJ on the UK's biggest radio station, he regularly does dubstep features and has his musical tastes listed as "Urban". Like me if you're not a fan of Moombahton then this isn't going to set the world on fire but there you go.
So for Knife Party fans you're going to love this just as much as anything else they've put out. Its a good release from them and I really like it. Nothing too different except maybe the last track. But hey if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Weekly bangers 20/05/2012
Busy, busy week. Luckily it all calms down after tomorrow. Anyway on to this edition of weekly bangers and boy have I got a track for you but onto that in a minute. Firstly I have some drum and bass for you guys from Delta Heavy. Regular readers will know they've already featured on here once or twice before. This time they're back with a head banging track that once it goes will have you moving all of the place.
The track is called "End of Days" it featured on UKF just the other day and is available to pre-order. This is a high tempo track with some grizzly bass in the build, drum and bass fans will love this along with quite a few dubstep fans. You can have a listen here. I'm sure you'll like it.
The next track is just pure dubstep. Fans of other genres, not for you, if you like heavy bass then you'll be spunking over this one for weeks. Major Lazer isn't really someone you associate with absolute screamers but with a bit of help from Englishman Flux Pavilion and some oh so typically reggae vocals from Johnny Osborne. If you like reggae you may know him from his popular song "Buddy Bye" (think Sleng Teng Riddim). Anyway the track is called "Mr. Marshall", stick with it and listen to the build which is pretty decent in itself. The drop is just insane, pregnant women and people with heart conditions should not listen. I also love the dubbed in yelp of "FUCK!". Just adds something. You may struggle to find a studio version of this, however but there are copies out there.
Anyway that's it for this week, till next time, enjoy!

Netsky back for more + Bassex
Was sup everyone? Well I had a great response from the weekly bangers post a lot of people liking it and a lot of page views thanks, stand by for the next post next week. So today I thought I'd talk about that young, Belgian drum and bass producer Netsky who is set for his first concerts in just a few weeks. Many of you will know him for his remix of the Rusko track "Everyday" and a very good remix it was too. Today however I'm gonna be talking a remix of a Netsky track, released late last year the track "Come Alive" is a decent track in its own right. But Culture Shock have knocked it up a level with their remix. Adding a more drum and bass feel to it with a faster tempo than the original. Well worth a listen check it out.
Okay, this track just, epic! Not much more you can say about it. I'm sure many if not all of you know the song "Daydream" by I Monster. I'm also sure that a fair amount of you know that Lupe Fiasco released a remixed version of the song. But what I'm fairly sure not many of you know is that Bassex released yet a further remix of that track. Fuck me, when it goes, boy does it go. Just listen to it you'll like it trust me!
Finally this week I'm happy to announce the opening of the Bass Junkie shop on Spreadshirt for all of you're dubstep gear. More will be added over the coming weeks and months so keep checking back!

Weekly Bangers 14/05/2012
OK all you dub lovers, I've decided to introduce a new weekly post featuring my favourite bangers of the week. This doesn't necessarily mean tracks that have been released that week just banging tunes we should all have a listen to, so don't email me bitching about when a track was released.
So onto the first of many weekly bangers. Now after reviewing Rusko's new album in my last post I've rekindled my love with the old skool reggae dub, so with that in mind, my first track for you this week comes from Kaba. The tracks called Bad Boys ft. Damian Marley (who else). Skrillex and Knife Party fans this is one for you, it has the Skrillex style snare along with Knife Party's "Whoops" from various tracks. It's a really good track to just nod your head too.
My second banger for you this week is one from a relatively unknown artist. The track is Njomza - Nightmare (Atlis Remix), this isn't one for the faint hearted, stick out for the drop which is sick enough to make you shit your pants. It's a nice wobbly build that could quite easily make a nice track on its own, then Atlis got hold of it and tore it apart. Absolute eye watering, filth and best of all its available for free download here. Get it while its hot.
That's if for this weeks bangers. Keep it bass and keep it heavy.

Rusko - Songs Review
Busy, busy week for me, there's a lot going on. Today I'm going to review an album that has been out for a little while now and its the latest release by Rusko. Now I'm not going to lie it won't be to everyone's taste and it is a bit different to everything else out there.
This album is something very different and Rusko has attempted to take dubstep back to its Jamaican roots, this has led to many of the tracks having a more progressive and melodic sound rather than ear drum blowing basslines. This is very apparent in the tracks with the reggae vocals, the tracks Skanker, Mek More Green and Love No More. I did say this wouldn't be to everyone's taste. The heavy reggae influence will put a lot of people off.
That said, there are many differing tracks on the album, Opium is more a recent Rusko style track, along with Dirty Sexy and Roll Da Beats, although the later again has the dancehall style lyrics. There are also more dance and electro style songs on the album like Pressure and Thunder which break the whole thing up nicely. I must say the comically titled Asda Car Park is one of my favourites, very Rusko with the almost sinister sounding beat. Then again a total change with Whistle Crew, having a garage twist to it, its a very contrasting album and I think that what Rusko has attempted to do is highlight the progression of dub since its original Jamaican beats through to garage and then the more recent dance style tracks.
It's a ballsey album from Rusko and has certainly been controversial. BBC Music's review was very critical of the whole album and although I can understand where the writer is coming from I think its very much dependant on your taste. Mainstream dubbers and those looking for the next face melter, steer well clear. Personally, being a huge reggae fan, I love it, with Skanker and Love No More amongst my favourites. Good effort Mr. Rusko.

Tomba and Loadstar
Whats up everyone, I hope you're all having a good week. So this week I have an EP review and another banging track for you to sink you're teeth into. Firstly, Tomba released his EP "Time To Slam" earlier this week, so I thought I'd give you a little run down of it.
Its a 5 track EP although if you have "Borgore's Misadventures In Dubstep" its a 3 track EP as the tracks "Kneeyan" and "Wanna Feel Good" featured on that. The first track is a fast tempo job featuring rapper Inja, I actually like the track is has a real Tomba feel to it, fans of his previous releases will know exactly what I mean. The second track on the EP is my favourite its entitled "Spanish Lullaby" and the track just explodes in your ears. High energy, gritty and again fast paced, it certainly packs a punch and will get people throwing all sorts of nutty shapes when its dropped. I'll move on to "You And Me" as the other two I spoke about in the review of Borgore's album. This moves back into the standard dubstep tempo and has the Borgore style gritty bass wobble that you associate with these two. Another good track. So overall it's a good release from Tomba who certainly has a following, fans be sure to get hold of this.
Rating: 8/10
Now onto the other part of this post. This time I have a drumstep track for you. Now I am fully aware of what drumstep is don't get all dicky about it, for the purposes of this blog drumstep is that grey area between drum and bass and dubstep. This week its artist Loadstar and his release "Second Skin". It's a really good track that is set to be released on RAM Records and again its one that will really get the crowd pumping. He makes good use of some very popular synths on the scene at the moment and I'm sure if you give it a listen you won't be able to stop nodding your head.
That's your lot peeps, next time exciting news about some Bass Junkie merchandise, eyes peeled.

Drum n Bass in your face
Its been a while people. Mainly because well there isn't a lot flying around at the minute. But UKF (as always) have provided me with some dirty drum n bass to get all of you ravers going.
Now in a previous post a few back you may have remembered that I mentioned a track by Fred V and Grafix? Well they're back with a new release that once again I really enjoy. But first I have an old school track for you 1st gen Drum n Bass and Jungle lovers. This track will certainly take you back with the sirens and and unorthadox nature. Think Machete by DJ Hazard and you won't be far wrong. This is Aeph - Highway Thirteen and it is a very original track in style and rhythm, brings back some good and "fuzzy", shall we say, memories.
Now onto Fred V and Grafix and they're back with a remix of a track by Rudimental. the track is called "Feel the Love" yes I know it sounds like a dodgy pop song but just trust me. I wouldn't call it a summer track really cause the overall feel of the song isn't exactly upbeat but its certainly a track to get you going. It went straight onto my running play list. I'm bobbing back and fourth in my chair right now listening to it.
OK for you gritty dubstep lovers this is a track for you, first played by Skream and Benga the other night so you might struggle to find it but it called "Invite the Future" by Northern Lights, the drop is deep, heavy and dark. Black Sun Empire springs to mind, if you can find it well worth a listen. Overall its a solid track from a very underrated outfit.
That's your dose of bass for now. Till next time...Get Down!!!

Sub Focus
Apologies for taking a while to post again its been a hectic week and weekend but back with a new dose of dubstep for you. Now as I'm sure you all know Sub Focus is releasing a new track entitled Out The Blue. Now personally I think its a really good track as it is, but then I heard Xilent's remix and its a proper tune. Giving is a much deeper complexion than the original and really bringing it into the dubstep spectrum. Well worth checking out.
Apart from that there is very little out there at the moment in terms of truly good music. With many artists currently producing their summer hits its a bit of a lull. So baring that in mind I thought I'd talk about something a bit different. Yesterday the Coachella Festival went ahead in California with many big names stepping up, but all the attention was on the "return" of Tupac. Hold your horses conspiracy theorists, it was a remarkably lifelike hologram of the rapper. Now I'm not a fan of rap at all but it just highlights how technology is being used to do amazing things within the music world and I think the more it gets involved the better.
That's it, short I know but whatever. Enjoy.

Now I'm not a fan of rap at all but it just highlights how technology is being used to do amazing things within the music world and I think the more it gets involved the better.
That's it, short I know but whatever. Enjoy.

Good Friday Bass
Morning all and a Good Friday to everyone. We all know that a truly good friday involves a fat joint and some good bass, I can certainly provide you with one. There has been little in the way of big releases this week, in the Dubstep world especially, after Borgore's latest album there seems to have been a lull, bar some tracks from Gemini and a Delta Heavy remix featuring Ria Ora who at the moment is in every fucking thing going. That said I do like the mix, its pretty heavy and has the oh-so-dubstep screams in it.
Now something that was literally released this morning that I actually quite like is a release from Dual Shock. You've never heard of them I know, but don't worry. They're signed to Gawa Recordings, I know you've never heard of them either. Dual Shock have been on the scene for a bit and are recognisable by they're wobbles and stammers. They won't be to everyone's taste but they're well worth checking out, the two newest releases are Sphex and Thor.
For you Drum n Bass fans again a quiet week but UKF have released a new track from Matrix and Futurebound entitled All I Know its a decent release with your typical Drum n Bass feel, although fans of instrumentals should steer clear as the lyrics will annoy you eventually. But apart from that I'm afraid I have nothing new.
Right now I've sourced some good bass I'm off to source a fat joint. Happy Easter. Peace.

Borgore's Misadventures In Dubstep - Review
So Borgore released his new album last week Borgore's Misadventures In Dubstep and it's had a mixed reception from well nearly everyone. As this is my first album review I just thought I'd do: overview, what I like, what I dislike, rating. Keep it simple and to the point.
OK so a general overview, well this album is bass heavy as you'd expect from Borgore there is nothing subtle here and fans are deep, grizzly bass will be all over this release. It's 16 tracks long, yes its a long album, however make no mistake, its not all Borgore, in fact, out of the 16 I think only 3 of the tracks are actually Borgore's, the rest are filled with tracks from: xKore, Tomba, Document One, Mojo, High Rankin and a couple of others. So to this this is Borgore's album is a bit of a cop out really, but all the tracks are in his style.
What I like: I like how Borgore just doesn't change, no matter what people say and although I'd like to see him try something new, as the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it and what Borgore churns out certainly ain't broke. Tomba contributes with some really good tracks on this one of my favourites being "Kneeyan". The news leaked today that he will be hanging up his err...decks? and returning to his metal roots. We all wish him the best with whatever he goes into. Document One also come in with some real storming tracks such as "Tears". Thrown in the mix for good measure is also "Moving Together" which is a rel classic.
What I don't like: Well as I said earlier to call this Borgore's album is unfair on the other artists who contribute the majority of the album. When you look at those artists the other thing that strikes you is that they are all very similar, which leaves the album sounding similar throughout, whereas just a track or two with a slight difference would break it up nicely.
Rating: 7/10
A solid release from all involves, just nothing really new. Borgore's fans will just love it cause its him all over. Till next time, enjoy!

Modestep and Borgore
Whats up everyone, I know its been a while since my last post, a busy week and weekend. So all the talk in the dubstep world at the moment is about Modestep's latest track "Show Me A Sign", which to be totally honest I'm not sure whether I like. The video is just fucking bizzarre, I can understand what they're getting at but it really is odd. The song itself is typical Modestep with Josh's vocals adding some depth to the track, the stammered screams and the grizzly bass underneath. Fans of Modestep will love it, I think it is a solid release just not too sure whether its for me.
The other big news in the dubstep world is that Borgore is set to release his album "Borgore's Misadventures in Dubstep" (weeks after releasing the "Flex" EP). I was personally a bit disappointed with the Flex EP, it was all too similar for me. And that's where at the moment Borgore divides the dubstep world, half would like him to push the boat the out and try something new, the other half are happy for him to continue to churn out his unique brand of filth. Whatever the Israeli producer comes out with will no doubt raise eyebrows.
To Drum n Bass now and this track is from Fred V & Grafix who are relatively well known in their respective field. But their latest track had a play on Radio 1 the other day which was massive for them and I can see why. This track has a real good feel about it and its great for them to finally be hitting the right chord with a bigger audience check it out the tracks called "Just A Thought".
Right that's it for now, keep your eyes peeled, I'll be back with a review of Borgore's new Album when I get my hands on it. Peace.

Latest dose of filth
Ok short one for you guys today cause its been a busy weekend and I am shattered. I managed to keep my eyes open long enough to hear Document One's newest track with a couple of featuring artists. Its a great track and I really think your gonna love it, Document One just get better and better, I said earlier that I think their mix of Flex by Borgore was a winner, this latest release shows just how far they've come.
Check it out on their youtube, its well worth a listen. Night all.

Flex this
What's up everyone, I apologise I haven't posted all week its been a busy one for myself. All the talk in the dubstep world this week has been about Borgore's latest EP - Flex, which is free to download from his Buygore site. Now fans of Borgore will know that he has been churning out pure filth since his appearance on the scene. His obscene lyrics and chest rattling bass have made him a real hit amongst some, whereas other can't stand him. Personally I think he's a real character and any industry needs characters.
On to his EP anyway, now I'm probably not gonna make any friends here but to be totally honest its a pretty standard release from him. 3 versions of he title track flex and another song Kiss My Lips make up the EP and its just the same stuff from Borgore, they say sex sells but is there a point where you can only milk something so far? I'd just like to see him release something different and really give it a go. Fans will love it because its so typically Borgore, nothing new, that's not to say its a bad release its not. Just nothing that's gonna set the world alight. However the Document One mix of Flex is a sick track, I really like it and it's good to see Document One back doing what they do best: making fucking awesome mixes.
Finally today the track Overjoyed by Bastille has been mixed by Distance. The track is a real dark one, for those who like Black Sun Empire and Emalkay and as such this is for you. Great tune. That's it for now bass junkies, till next time.

UKF & Stuff
Right today I have a couple of tracks that have been released on UKF's pages on youtube. Now I'm sure all of you are familiar with UKF, a fantastic channel on youtube set up by a lad whose made a real go of the explosion of bass culture in recent years.
Yesterday on their Drum and Bass page they put up a VIP and its an absolute banger from Body & Soul and Fourward. Its the Authority VIP and it has a combination of brutally heavy kicks along with a real dubstep feel to it. I love it, if you like heavy dubstep then you'll love this track, but it appeals to the drum and bass crowd too with its tempo. Solid release for them.
The other track that I want to bring to your attention is another UKF tune, this time a release by Adam F who I've never really got into and to tell you the truth this is a Subscape remix, but whatever. It's more along the electro side of the dubstep spectrum so if you like your beats dark and heavy then this won't be for you, but for fans of Skrillex and alike then you'll like this. The track is titled "When The Rain Is Gone" just get it.
OK now before continuing with this blog let me clear something up. Skrillex has divided opinions within the bass world, people claim that he reuses the same loops, he's a sellout, he's making dubstep too mainstream. Others say he's a pioneer and bringing dubstep to the mainstream stage is a good thing. To be totally honest, I don't give two shits what you think of him. My opinion is that he's a good producer, he's no pioneer and his sound is more along the lines of electro/dubstep I wouldn't say it fits one genre perfectly, if you disagree then keep that to yourself. I saw him in Brixton a few weeks ago and the show was immense, I had a great time and so did everybody else, if you don't like him then don't listen, simple, don't send me shit about how he's a this or a that. End of rant.
More in the days ahead people. Keep those eyes peeled.

Welcome to Dubtrek!
Firstly, welcome to Dubtrek! and no, this isn't some sort of dubstep and Star Trek gangbang don't worry. I decided to start this blog mainly so I could just voice my opinion on anything Dubstep and bass culture. I know there are thousands of blogs out there like this but whatever, this ones mine. If you don't like what I say then unlucky, move on and read something else.
Basically if its Dubstep, Drum n Bass, Drumstep or anything bass culture I'm all over it. If you feel the same then I'd urge you to check back regularly when I'll be reviewing albums and EP's (from well known and undiscovered artists), releasing gig info, posting the odd mashup and just generally rambling. Anyway that's enough about me and this blog lets crack on.
Firstly I'm gonna start with a bit of Benga and namely his new track - I Will Never Change, if you haven't heard it check it out here. Personally I love this track and I think Benga has really outdone himself with this latest release. He's come a long way since Diary of an Afro-Warrior, with Magnetic Man and various collaborations with the likes of good friend Skream and other dubstep heavyweights. I know it sounds ridiculous talking about a pioneer of the genre coming a long way but it sort of makes sense. His sound has matured and I honestly can't wait for his next release due later this year.
Ok next up for you I have something from someone I know, this isn't gonna be a regular thing by the way. I'm not gonna shamelessly plug all my wanabee producer friend's crap week in week out. But this is seriously worth checking out. I first saw this and thought that will never work but some how it just does. Coldplay - Paradise (System remix), I know what you're thinking, just listen. Just to top it off Coldplay posted it on their official facebook wall with the comment "filth". Please bear in mind this was made by an 18 year old lad with a computer, nothing more, certainly worth keeping tabs on though.
That's your lot for today, I'll be back soon with more bass!
